I was inspired for this one by one of my favourite woodworking books, “The Foundations of Woodworking” by Michael Pekovich.
This neat little hanging cabinet is on the wall in our verandah and houses our keys, sunglasses and a few stray euro coins.
Like many of my projects, it’s made with European Ash timber. I carefully selected the piece that would be the door, picking a side board with beautiful ‘arches’ in the grain pattern, giving it an almost church-like look.
The rear panel is not plywood but solid ash slats in a traditional method. Instead of modern door hinges I chose more traditional brass hinges for this project to give it a more classic feel.
(I cheated a bit on the joinery though, joining the carcass with modern domino floating tenons, rather than traditional dovetails).
