Matching Oak side tables

This was a fun Upcycling project.

We had these two side tables that we’d picked up years ago when an office was closing down and giving furniture away. They had a standard ugly grey office furniture-style tabletop. We used them as temporary bedside tables when we moved into our new house some years ago (before I built new ones).

After we didn’t need them anymore, they had been sitting in my workshop for years, waiting for me to get around to sprucing them up a bit. The tabletops were ugly but the black steel frames were solid, and I thought they would look great matched with solid oak tabletops.

I had a piece of a very old solid oak roof beam that I’d been given a few years ago; it came out of a construction site and was probably a roof beam in an old barn or house somewhere in Brandenburg. I thought that would be the perfect upcycling addition to this project.

I made the new tops easily detachable, so they can be used as either the top on the table, or easily detached and used as trays.

I love the way these turned out, and it’s satisfying to know the materials that went into these have a story.
